New Hungarian Education State Secretary for Minorities András Béres told the press that three articles in the Education Law have to be amended, namely the ones banning minority-language entrance exams and minority-language education of vocational subjects at the secondary and higher levels. His newly appointed Rumanian counterpart Florin Diaconescu disagreed as regards the need to alter the letter of the law and saw such changes unlikely in 1997.
