ON THE 4TH SESSION OF THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE OF THE EU AND SLOVAK REPUBLIC
ON JUNE 16-18, 1997, BRATISLAVA

The Political Movement Coexistnce

• supports the fulfilment of the Copenhagen criteria for the affiliation to the European Union in the shortest possible time,
• attaches great importance to the possibility of the Slovak Republic to join the European Union,
• consideres the affiliation of vital importance for all citizens of the state and therefore it stands for the joining of the Slovak Republic to the European Union,
• stresses the responsibility of the present Slovak Government towards future generations of the inhabitants of the state for the tendencies of the political development and economical progress which determine the future of Slovakia,

therefore it

• welcomes the last chance for the integration of the Slovak Republic into the European Union emerging from the recomendations of the 4th session of the Joint Parliamentary Committee,
• considers for important the possible participation of Hungarian MPs in the new special control commissions supervising the secret services,
• hails the reiterated initiative in support of the legislative solution of the problems of minority language use till the end of November 1997,
• calls the attention of the government to the fact that the solution of the usage of languages of national minorities
• of the Hungarian national community - by a special law
• is subject of the international political credibility of the Slovak Republic,
• is possible only with the effective participation of the representatives of the Hungarian Coalition in the Parliament of the Slovak Republic,
• will impede the further growing of tension in the society.

Coexistence

having in mind the legislative methods experienced from the part of the government coalition is convinced that if the integration efforts of the present government are really sincere then it will make the necessary steps even in a shorter time surmounting thus the obstacles which it created by its policy until now. .
