Institute for Hungarian Studies present George Szirtes HUNGARIAN POETRY IN ENGLISH experiences and reflexions George Szirtes, born in Budapest in 1948, lives in England since the suppression of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. Teacher, lecturer, he has published sixteen volumes of his poems and prose and an extensive number of articles, essays and book introductions in Europe as well as in the USA, Canada, China and Australia, and was honored by numerous literary prizes. One of the most published translators of Hungarian literature, his English versions include works by many outstanding modern Hungarian writers such as Sándor Csoóri, Zoltán Jékely, Dezsô Kosztolányi, László Krasznahorkai, Gyula Krúdy, Sándor Márai, Ágnes Nemes Nagy, Ottó Orbán, István Vas and Sándor Weöres as well as the nineteenth century epic drama by Imre Madách: "The Tragedy of Man".
